ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...
Tonight, the SeaWolves continue their four-game opening weekend series against the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees)...Last night, Trenton shut out the 'Wolves, limiting Erie to just a pair of hits in a 4-0 loss. It was Erie's first opening day loss since 2006 when the club fell in 10 innings at Harrisburg 2-1. That season, the club started 0-3 before picking up its first win...With last night's loss, the SeaWolves have now lost six of their last eight games in Trenton dating back to 2008. Erie's last series win in Trenton came in 2007 when the club swept the Thunder in a three-game series July 23-25...Tonight's starter L.J. Gagnier makes his 2010 debut. Gagnier went a combined 10-10 in 25 starts with Erie and Lakeland in 2009. He was 1-0 in two starts with the 'Wolves. The righty was Lakeland's Pitcher of the Year in 2009...RHP Ryan Pope takes the mound for Trenton making his first appearance of the year. Pope posted a 5-12 record and 4.78 ERA in 26 appearances, 25 starts, for the Thunder in 2009...
TODAY'S NOTABLES - - Trenton leads the season series over Erie 1-0. The SeaWolves and Thunder meet 14 times in 2010." Erie's roster fields just two Double-A rookies, INF Justin Henry and LHP Andy Oliver." Erie's hitting coach Glenn Adams is not with the team due to pre-season hip surgery. Tigers minor league roving catching instructor Andrew Graham will handle hitting coach duties until Adams is able to return. Graham played for Erie in 2006." Yesterday marked Erie's first Opening Day loss since 2006." L.J. Gagnier made four starts for Erie in 2008 posting a 2-2 record and 12.91 ERA. That season, he spent time at four levels of the Tigers minor league chain. Tonight is Gagnier's first career appearance against Trenton. - In two starts for Lakeland against the Yankees FSL affiliate Tampa, Gagnier went 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA in 2009. - The SeaWolves have started the season 0-1 on the road. Erie was the worst road team in the EL in 2009 going just 26-45 away from Jerry Uht Park. The last time Erie finished the season with a winning road record was 2007 when the club went 38-34.
