Akron RubberDucks News Release

Mother Nature...The Aeros returned to the playing field for the first time since winning the 2009 Eastern League Championship Thursday night in Binghamton, NY. The first game of the year was cut short in the middle of the 5th inning due to an enormous amount of rain, high winds and lightning. The game will resume in Binghamton today at 5:05 p.m. with the second game scheduled to be played afterward as a seven inning contest.

Let It Fly...Matt McBride started the season off with a bang by connecting with his first home run of the season. McBride's home run was part of a 5-run inning which came moments before the skies opened up and the game was suspended. Enough to Go Around...The bats were alive in Binghamton last night as five different players drove in runs for the Aeros. Lonnie Chisenhall and Matt McBride both drove in two, while Jared Goedert, Wyatt Toregas and Tim Fedroff all drove in one run each. Close, But No Cigar...Michigan native Zach Putnam made his first career start at the Double-A level last night against the Mets. Putnam was only 3 outs away from making the game official before the game was suspended. Putnam faced a total of 16 batters, giving up only 2 runs on a Lucas Duda home run which tied the ballgame at two runs a piece. Carlos Santana Watch...Santana started the 2010 season with the Triple-A Affiliate Columbus Clippers by going 4 for 5 at the plate, with 2 runs, 2B, 2 HR and 4 RBI. Santana hopes to repeat the success of the 2009 season where he also had an Opening Day home run as the Aeros defeated Bowie 9-5 at Canal Park. Did You Know...On April 9th, 1989 - Rickey Henderson steals his 800th career base in a 4-3 Yankees loss to the Indians.
