Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Vince Faison and Bronson Sardinha each homered to help the Thunder to a 5-2 win over Reading on Friday night. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to rain.
Reading (21-32) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning as they collected five hits off Thunder starter Danny Borrell. Four of those hits were infield hit, including a pair of bunt singles. The runs scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Jim castellano and an RBI single by RF Matt Padgett. But those would be the only runs allowed by Borrell (2-3) on the night. He had nine hits allowed over six innings with no walks and one strikeout.
Trenton (28-27) got a run back in the 3rd Inning a fielder's choice ground ball by CF Justin Christian. The Thunder then grabbed the lead against R-Phils starter Gio Gonzalez in the 5th Inning. Faison started the inning with a solo homer, his 7th home run of the year. After an out, Trenton got singles from 2B Gabe Lopez and RF Bronson Sardinha before an RBI single from DH Randy Ruiz. 1B Shelley Duncan then followed with an RBI double for a 4-2 lead. Gonzalez (2-5) allowed five runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings for the loss.
Sardinha added a solo homer in the 7th Inning before the rains halted play for a 5-2 lead.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 PM. Tyler Clippard (2-6, 4.07) starts for the Thunder against Reading's Tim McClaskey (1-4, 3.77).
