Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Wilson Batista's eighth-inning RBI single proved to be the game-winner for the Binghamton Mets, who came back to beat the Harrisburg Senators 6-5 in the series opener at NYSEG Stadium Friday. The win is Binghamton's second in a row.

The B-Mets (23-32) got to Harrisburg starter Kip Bouknight for a four-run third inning. Mike Pelfrey opened the inning with a single before Batista bunted him to second. Ray Navarrete followed with a base hit to left, scoring Pelfrey with the game's first run. After Jorge Padilla singled to put runners at the corners, Michel Abreu walked and Navarrete scored on an error for a 2-0 lead. The next batter, Jay Caligiuri, made it 3-0 with a line-drive single to left, bringing home Padilla, before Jonathan Slack singled home Abreu.

Harrisburg (27-27) would rally to take the lead. They pulled within 4-2 on back-to-back RBI singles by Salomon Manriquez and Dan Dement in the fourth before going ahead 5-4 in the seventh when Robert Paulk gave up a two-out RBI hit by Tim Raines, Jr. and a go-ahead two-run double to Kory Casto.

Binghamton tied the game at five in the bottom of the seventh when Padilla singled off Daniel Rueckel (1-2), moved to third on Abreu's single and scored on Caligiuri's second RBI single of the evening. In the eighth, Yunir Garcia scored the go-ahead run when he walked, advanced to second on Bobby Malek's pinch-hit single and came home on Batista's hit up the middle.

Robert Paulk (2-2) earned the win for Binghamton, while Ivan Maldonado got the game's final out for his third save. Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game set with the Harrisburg Senators. Miguel Pinango (0-3, 4.21) gets the ball for Binghamton against southpaw Oscar Alvarez (2-3, 4.37) of Harrisburg. Game time is 7:00 from NYSEG Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
