Chacon to rehab with Thunder Sunday

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that weather permitting, RHP Shawn Chacon is scheduled to make a rehabilitation start for the Thunder on Sunday, June 4th. The Thunder will host the Reading Phillies, Double-A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies at Waterfront Park at 1:35 p.m.

Chacon is recovering from the hematoma on his left leg which he suffered on May 11th against the Boston Red Sox.

He is 4-1 with a 5.21 ERA in nine appearances including seven starts during 2006. Chacon went 8-10 with a 3.44 ERA in 27 games (24 starts) during 2005 with the Yankees and Rockies. Chacon was acquired by the Yankees on 7/28/05 from the Colorado Rockies for former Thunder RHP's Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra.

Chacon is the third NY Yankee to rehab with the Thunder this season. On May 12th and May 17th, RHP Carl Pavano pitched for Trenton going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 7 innings of work. OF Gary Sheffield played on May 22nd going 1-for-3 in a game against the New Britain Rock Cats.

Chacon is the 12th Major Leaguer to appear with the Thunder on rehab since the Thunder and Yankees became affiliated in the 2003 season. The Thunder is 20-11 in games in which a member of the Yankees joins them for a rehabilitation assignment.

The Thunder begins a three-game series against the Reading Phillies tonight at Waterfront Park. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. Danny Borrell (1-3, 4.44) will start for Trenton and be opposed by Reading's Gio Gonzalez (2-4, 2.56).
