Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder filled one of their final two roster spots today, adding rookie defenseman Nate Metcalf.

Metcalf, 24, joins the Thunder from Minnesota State University - Mankato, where he notched a career-high 12 points in 38 games with the Mavericks. CHL teams are allowed to add two amateur players to their playoff roster.

"Nate is a big, stay-at-home defenseman", said Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal. "Minnesota State just finished their season on Sunday, so he will join the team in game shape and ready to play."

The 6-4, 200-pound Metcalf played four seasons at Minnesota State - Mankato, picking up 21 points in 101 games. He was recommended by Thunder defenseman Peter Runkel, who was Metcalf's college teammate from 2000-2003.

The Central Hockey League today also named Thunder center Travis Clayton the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month for March. Clayton, who is riding a 12-game scoring streak, had 13 points in seven March games, including five-multiple point efforts. He led the Thunder and finished tied for sixth in the CHL with 79 points.

Face-off is set for 8:05 p.m. Central Time and both games can be heard on AM 1070 "The Ranch". A limited number of tickets are available through the Thunder office for this weekend's road games for $21 each and must be ordered by this Thursday at Noon.
