Mudbugs Add One to Playoff Roster

March 16, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- With the CHL's President's Cup playoffs just three days away, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have added to their roster as the team prepares for its first round matchup against the Indianapolis Ice. Earlier tonight at a press conference at Isle of Capri Casino & Hotel in Bossier City, Head Coach Scott Muscutt announced the signing of forward Brett Smith to the team's playoff roster.

Smith, a native of Guelph, Ontario, comes to Bossier-Shreveport from his senior year at Ferris State University (Big Rapids, Michigan) where he led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 goals and 20 assists in 38 games. The 5'8" 175-pound center was a former teammate of Jason Basile at FSU and is considered an amateur player on the Mudbugs' roster. The Central Hockey League allows each team a maximum of two amateur players to be added to the playoff rosters.

"Brett is excited to be coming down here and we're thrilled to have him," said Muscutt tonight. "We've heard nothing but great things about his skill level and work ethic and he's coming off of a tremendous year at Ferris State. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he brings at both ends of the ice as we enter the playoffs."

The Mudbugs begin the 2004 President's Cup Playoffs this weekend at the CenturyTel Center with Games 1 and 2 of their best-of-five series against the Indianapolis Ice on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Games 3 and 4 will take place the following weekend in Indianapolis and will be broadcast on KWKH AM 1130. If necessary, Game 5 will be held at the CenturyTel Center on Tuesday March 30th at 7:05 p.m. For more information on Mudbugs playoff ticket packages and scheduling, please call 318-752-BUGS.
