CHL Names Sherwood Player of the Month, Vaughn Goaltender of the Month

The Wichita Thunder are back in the Central Hockey League playoffs for the first time since the 1999/2000 season, and have done so behind quality play from a number of individuals, including veteran center Travis Clayton who was today named the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month for March. Clayton registered 13 points in seven March games as the Thunder posted a 4-2-1 record and claimed the fourth and final Northern Conference playoff berth. Veteran Clayton scored at least a point in each of the seven games, and had five multiple point contests. His most memorable outing came March 7th in a home game versus Laredo, scoring in both the third period and in overtime to give the Thunder a 4-3 victory. With 27 goals, 52 assists and 79 points this season, the Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan product has moved near the top of three CHL career scoring lists, with 214 goals (8th), 326 assists (12th) and 540 points (10th).
The San Angelo Saints have enjoyed an exceptional campaign under CHL Coach of the Year Ray Edwards and Scott Brower Memorial (Most Outstanding Goaltender) Award winner Scott Reid, today named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Month for March. Hailing from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Reid only improved as the season continued; recording three shutout victories in six March games as the Saints claimed the Southwest Division crown. Reid blanked Indianapolis, Corpus Christi and Fort Worth in the month to earn a share of the CHL shutout lead with six on the season. With the CHL regular season now concluded, All-Star Reid has also earned a position in the CHL record book, breaking the single season save percentage record with a mark of .938, bettering the previous record of .935 set by Bossier-Shreveport's Ken Carroll during the 2000/2001 Western Professional Hockey League season.
