October 30, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
Henry Thrun scored the overtime winner with less than a minute remaining as the Saints won in an offensive shootout, 6-5 against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Robert Cronin scored twice for Dubuque and Dylan Wendt scored twice for Muskegon as the two teams flexed their goal-scoring muscles. In what was the first of five meetings over the next four weeks between the two, Dubuque and Muskegon made offense the focal point Friday night.
-The Saints wasted no time kicking things off, as they pushed three goals past Christian Stoever in the first period. Robert Cronin scored twice, once at even strength and once on the power play and Finn Brown added his first of the preseason to give Dubuque a strong lead.
-Cronin now has four preseason goals for Dubuque in his two seasons with the Saints. He also had two goals last preseason for Dubuque.
-Muskegon answered the call from the Saints in the first period, striking early on the power play in period two. Danil Guschin, who is on loan to Muskegon from the OHL, potted his first of the preseason to make it 3-1.
-Dubuque answered back to regain the three-goal lead as PJ Fletcher popped the puck into the back of the net on the doorstep.
-After that it was all Muskegon as they dominated the remainder of the second period. Muskegon grabbed goals from Dylan Wendt, Davis Pennington and Tanner Kelly. Kelly scored a highlight reel goal as he split the entire Saints team for his second of the preseason.
-The third period was back and forth for both teams, with each scoring towards the middle to the final regulation frame. Dylan Wendt scored for Muskegon and Kenny Connors tallied for Dubuque as the two headed to overtime with the 5-5 tie.
-The Saints will take on the Lumberjacks again tomorrow night at 6:05pm as they complete their final preseason tune-up before the regular season. Dubuque won't have to wait long until they see Muskegon again, as the Jacks will be right back in Dubuque on Friday, November 6th to kick off the regular season.
-Not only will Muskegon be in Dubuque for Opening Night, they will also take on the Saints twice more in the first three weeks of the season. In total, Dubuque will play Muskegon five times at home-including tonight-in the next four weeks.
