LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars fell to 0-5 this preseason following a 7-1 loss against the Omaha Lancers (3-2-1) on Friday night at Ralston Arena.
Lincoln got off to an early power play in the first minute of the game, but failed to register a shot on goal, foreshadowing a sign of things to come.
Omaha scored three goals in the opening frame as Dylan McCabe, Nolan Renwick and Kyle Bettens tallied. The Stars were outshot 13-5.
The Lancers continued to push the pace in the middle period, chasing Henrik Laursen after Omaha's fifth goal at 10:46, coming from Tyler Carpenter. Laursen stopped 15 shots. Sam Antenucci and Cam Mitchell also scored in the second period to increase Omaha's lead to 6-0 after 40 minutes.
Mitchell would add his second goal of the game 49 seconds into the third period, making it 7-0 Lancers. Stars defenseman Carter Schade thwarted Jakub Dobes' shutout bid 8:46 into the third period. Winter Wallace and Aidan Thompson provided the assists on Schade's goal.
Lincoln fired 19 shots in the third period, outshooting their opponent 32-30 at the end of regulation. Zak Brice relieved Laursen and made eight saves on ten shots.
The Stars will have a chance to respond in their final preseason game tomorrow night against the Tri-City Storm at Viaero Center. Watch the game on HockeyTV or listen on MIXLR. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
