Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers salvaged the series finale with the Bradenton Marauders on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-2 victory at Spectrum Field. The win wrapped up the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate's five-game homestand with a 2-3 mark.
Clearwater (13-19) started off on the right foot in the third when Alec Bohm ripped a double down the third-base line to plate Ben Aklinski to make it 1-0.
Bradenton (20-12) found an answer in the fourth when Robbie Glendinning took Alejandro Requena (2-1) deep for a two-run shot to left.
Clearwater could not answer in the bottom half of the frame, but responded using small-ball in the fifth inning. After Colby Fitch and Daniel Brito reached, Ben Aklinski singled to center to tie the game at two apiece. Nick Maton put down a bunt to push two runners into scoring position.
Clearwater again took advantage on Alec Bohm's RBI groundout to take a 3-2 lead.
Alejandro Requena was solid on the mound for the home team, earning the win with six frames and two runs allowed. The right-hander surrendered two walks while striking out four. The 22-year-old picked up his second quality start of the season on Wednesday afternoon.
Bradenton made a comeback attempt in the eighth by loading the bases with one out, but Zach Warren (SV, 1) induced a double play to end the threat for the visitors.
The Threshers will hit the road for a three-game set beginning Thursday night against the Dunedin Blue Jays at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium. RHP Andrew Brown (1-3 9.53) will toe the rubber for Clearwater against Dunedin's RHP Maximo Castillo (1-3 2.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
