Florida Fire Frogs News Release
LAKELAND, FL: The Lakeland Flying Tigers used two solo home runs to edge the Florida Fire Frogs, 2-1, in yet another pitcher's duel on Wednesday night at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Solo shots from Brady Policelli in the fourth and Zac Shepherd in the fifth off LHP Philip Pfeifer was all the offense Lakeland would need.
Despite those two mistakes, Pfeifer (0-1) pitched very well. He struck out six and allowed just four hits in five frames of work.
The Fire Frogs put together back-to-back hits to get on the board on the sixth. After a Brett Langhorne double, Riley Unroe nailed a single to center to plate him and make it 2-1 Flying Tigers.
Unroe went 1-4, extending his hitting streak and on-base streak to a team-best 8 and 17 games, respectively.
RHP Jesus Rodriguez (1-3) minimized damage in the sixth and held the Frogs offense almost completely at bay through seven stanzas. He fanned five and yielded four hits. LHP Max Green and RHP Bryan Garcia tossed scoreless frames to ensure victory for Lakeland.
Florida RHP Matt Withrow had another fine outing in relief of Pfeifer. He surrendered just one hit and two walks with four strikeouts over three shutout innings.
NEXT UP: Florida continues its seven-game road excursion with a visit to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Thursday evening to take on the Jupiter Hammerheads. RHP Freddy Tarnok (0-2, 6.92) gets the ball for the Fire Frogs with the first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
