Clearwater Threshers News Release
Fort Myers, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers concluded their seven-game road trip by being swept in Thursday's doubleheader at the hands of the Fort Myers Miracle at CenturyLink Sports Complex with final scores of 4-3 and 1-0. The defeats wrapped up the journey with a 3-4 mark heading into a six-game home stand at Spectrum Field.
Clearwater (11-16) jumped all over Jhoan Duran in the first inning of game one, striking for three runs on five hits.
Simon Muzziotti started the day by poking a single to left field, and advanced to third on a hit-and-run off the bat of Alec Bohm. After Maidson Stokes popped out, Matt Vierling drove an RBI single to right for the first run of the opening frame.
Jhailyn Ortiz struck out, but Jake Scheiner picked his teammate up with a run-scoring single to left to bring home Bohm for the 2-0 lead. Edgar Cabral followed with a hard-hit ball off the glove of Miguel Sano at third to push across Vierling.
Fort Myers (17-10) leaned on Sano to tie the game in the middle innings, as the big league rehabber slammed a two-run shot onto the berm in left in the fourth to cut the visitors' lead down to one, and knotted the game at three apiece with an RBI single to center in the fifth.
Jonathan Hennigan (0-1) sought to force extras on the mound in relief of Alejandro Requena, but the southpaw yielded the game-winning run on a one-out RBI single off the bat of Trevor Larnach to conclude the opener.
The only tally of game two came across in a second-inning rally for the Miracle, as the home team used a sacrifice fly from Ben Rortvedt to plate Lewin Diaz.
Despite the blemish, Colton Eastman (0-1) whirled a gem for the Threshers in his Advanced-A debut. The product of Cal State Fullerton struck out six and did not issue any walks across five frames in his first game with Clearwater.
The Threshers head back to Spectrum Field to kick start a six-game home stand, beginning with a three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas on Friday night. It has yet to be determined who will take the mound for Clearwater in the opener against Daytona's LHP Packy Naughton (2-2, 2.93). First pitch is schedule for 6:30 p.m., with coverage starting at 6:15 p.m. with Threshers Live! The Pregame Show on threshersbaseball.com.
The promotions continue at the home park of the Clearwater Threshers with Pop Culture Night on Friday. Fans can watch for themed graphics, hear top tracks from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's, and enjoy a great opportunity to dress up as your favorite Pop Culture icons. Fans are encouraged to stay after the game for a dance party at the Tiki Pavilion by DJ Sloane!
The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Threshers Fedora Hat as part of the team's giveaways throughout the 2019 season.
