PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Down to their final strike in the ninth, the Clearwater Threshers forced extra innings and went on to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 3-1 on Friday at First Data Field.

The Mets led 1-0 with two outs in the top of the ninth. Clearwater's Daniel Brito hit a 2-2 pitch from Marcel Renteria deep to short that Manny Rodriguez had to dive to stop. Rodriguez made the incredible diving stop but followed with an errant throw to second base trying to force out Rodolfo Duran to end the game. The ball skipped away into the visiting bullpen and Duran went on to score to tie the game 1-1.

In the top of the 10th, Madison Stoke hit a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded against Joe Cavallaro to give the Threshers a 3-1 lead.

Zach Warren pitched a scoreless bottom of the 10th to get the save.

The Mets scored their only run on a solo home run from Cody Bohanek in the fourth inning. They were aiming for their first 1-0 win of the season.

Mets starter Kyle Wilson fired seven scoreless innings in his best game of the year. He scattered five hits, walked two and struck out five in a no-decision.

Renteria was able to strand runners at the corners in the eighth but was unable to repeat the effort in the ninth.

Jeremy Vasquez went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games, which is the longest streak for a Met this season.

The Mets fell to 8-3 in the second half and are now joined in first place in the FSL South by the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

It was the second straight extra innings win for the Threshers. They beat Lakeland 2-1 in 11 innings on Thursday despite not scoring in the first 10 innings.

The Mets (8-3, 40-37) and Threshers (8-3, 44-33) play the middle game of their series at First Data Field on Saturday. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
