Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers could not play spoiler on Thursday night as they fell to the Tampa Yankees, 8-2, at Bright House Field.

Tampa (37-29) took the lead in the fourth on a solo homer by Mike Ford.

Clearwater (29-38) responded in the bottom half when Art Charles shot a grounder through the left side to plate J.P. Crawford from second.

Colin Kleven worked a solid five innings before hitting a wall in the sixth. The Yankees would blow the game open with seven runs in the frame.

Reymond Nunez's grand slam gave Tampa a 5-1 advantage. Eric Jagielo singled in two to push the Yankees' lead up to six and Cito Culver would score on a passed ball to stretch the lead to seven.

Kleven (6-10) would allow seven runs on eight hits in his 5.1 innings of work. The righty would collect seven strikeouts, but needed 103 pitches to get through his outing.

The Threshers would get one back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice by Herlis Rodriguez, but that would be the last threat for Clearwater.

Clearwater will head out to Lakeland for the final series of the 2014 season. Game one of the three-game set will be on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:11 p.m. The game can be heard live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 6:55 p.m.
