Five Tampa Yankees Selected for 2014 Arizona Fall League

TAMPA, FL. - The Arizona Fall League announced the 2014 rosters on Tuesday. The Scottsdale Scorpions will have four current Tampa Yankees players, one coach and three former Tampa Yankees players.

Tampa Yankees Hitting Coach P.J. Pilittere, RHP Caleb Cotham, RHP Branden Pinder, RHP Alex Smith, INF Greg Bird, INF Eric Jagielo, OF Tyler Austin, OF Aaron Judge and a catcher to be named later, were selected to represent the Yankees Organization.

Hitting Coach P.J. Pilittere is in his third year of coaching for the Yankees organization and first year coaching the Tampa Yankees. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 13th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.

RHP Caleb Cotham was selected by the New York Yankees in the fifth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University. Spending most of the current season on the DL, he has pitched in 16 games across all levels and has a 4.85 ERA over 52 innings pitched giving up 56 hits, 31 runs, 28 earned and 20 walks with 43 strikeouts.

RHP Branden Pinder split the 2014 season between Double-A (12 games) and Triple-A (13 games) totaling a 3-0 record with a 2.04 ERA after 29 games and 39.2 innings pitched. He gave up 29 hits, nine earned runs and nine walks with 37 strikeouts. Pinder was selected by the Yankees in the 16th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Santa Ana College.

RHP Alex Smith has spent the entire 2014 season with the T-Yanks. He's pitched 63.2 innings of relief and has a 5-5 record with a 2.40 ERA and seven saves. He's given up 52 hits, 20 runs (17 earned) and 19 walks with 57 strikeouts. Smith was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on February 29, 2012.

INF Greg Bird has split the 2014 season between the Tampa Yankees and the Trenton Thunder. After 96 games, he's batting .272 (95-349) with 50 runs scored, 28 doubles, one triples, 14 homeruns and 42 RBI. Bird was selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Grandview High School in Aurora, Colorado.

INF Eric Jagielo was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Notre Dame. He's played 81 games with the T-Yanks and has a .252 (73-290) batting average with 13 doubles, 15 homeruns and 50 RBI.

OF Tyler Austin has played 105 games for Double-A this season and is batting .275 (109-396). He's hit 20 doubles, five triples and nine homeruns with 47 RBI. Austin was selected by the New York Yankees in the 13th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia.

OF Aaron Judge has split his time this season between the Charleston RiverDogs (65 games) and the Tampa Yankees (62 games). He's batting .307 (139-453) with 77 runs scored, 24 doubles, four triples and 17 homeruns with 78 RBI. Judge was selected by the Yankees in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Fresno State University.
