FSL1 St. Lucie Mets

Mets Pondering Playoff Scenario

August 28, 2014 - Florida State League (FSL1)
St. Lucie Mets News Release

With four games remaining in the season, the Mets are still alive in the playoff race. They have been eliminated from winning the Florida State League South Division in the second half, but there is still a way where they can get into the postseason as a wildcard team. Here is that scenario:

Mets win AT LEAST three out of four vs. Palm Beach

AND

Mets win at least one more game than Bradenton over the last four games

AND

Fort Myers wins the second half

This is the only way the Mets can make the playoffs.

The reasoning:

Fort Myers won FSL South Division first half. If Fort Myers repeats as the champion in the second half (the Miracle are only one game out of first behind Palm Beach and Bradenton), the next best team in the FSL South over the course of the entire season goes to the playoffs as a wildcard team.

Currently, the Mets are 1.5 games back of Palm Beach for the second best record. Bradenton is also 0.5 games ahead of the Mets.

So the Mets can jump Palm Beach in the overall standings by taking three of four from the Cardinals. That also would likely eliminate Palm Beach from winning the second half.

Then it would come down to Bradenton and Fort Myers for the South Division title. The Mets would need Fort Myers to make up one game on Bradenton. If those two teams end up tied for first, Fort Myers wins the second half based on winning the season series vs. Bradenton.

If the Mets win three out of four vs. Palm Beach and Fort Myers wins the division over Bradenton, the Mets would still have to find a way to make up their 0.5 game deficit to Bradenton in the overall standings. To do that, the Mets need to win one more game than Bradenton over the final four games.

Here are the final series:

Mets vs Palm Beach (two road, two home)

Fort Myers vs Jupiter (two home, two road)

Bradenton vs Charlotte (two road, two home)
