Frederick Keys News Release

The Lynchburg Hillcats were able to take advantage of three Frederick wild pitches and an error to defeat the Keys Tuesday night, 6-1.

The Hillcats took a two-run lead in the second. With Keys LHP Zach Britton on the hill, RF Miles Durham reached on an infield hit. C Kris Watts walked. LF Jared Keel laid down a sac bunt to move the runners to second and third. Britton then threw a wild pitch, allowing Durham to score and giving the Hillcats a 1-0 lead. CF Alex Presley then singled in Watts, making it 2-0.

Britton would settle down after the RBI single. The southpaw set down the next 12 batters he faced in a row.

Britton came out to start the seventh, and hit Watts with a pitch. RHP Brian Parker came into the game for Britton. Parker tried to pick off Watts at first and threw the ball away. Watts got all the way around to third on the throwing error. Parker then threw a wild pitch, allowing Watts to score, and making it a 3-0 Lynchburg lead.

Frederick got on the scoreboard in the seventh. RF Billy Rowell, LF Kraig Binick and 2B Bobby Stevens hit back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. DH Robbie Widlansky hit a sac fly to left, scoring Rowell, and pulling Frederick to within two.

The Hillcats blew the game open in the ninth. Parker walked the lead off man, 1B Matt Hague. Parker then threw another wild pitch, allowing Hague to get to second. Hague then advanced to third on a Durham ground out to second base. Watts was intentionally walked, putting runners on the corners. Keel hit a sac fly to center, scoring Hague, and making it a 4-1 game. With one on and two down, DH Kent Sakamoto then drilled a two-run homerun, making it a five-run Lynchburg lead.

RHP Matt McSwain got the win for Lynchburg. He allowed the one earned run in 6.1 innings of work. He's now 6-1. Britton took the loss, dropping to 2-2.
