THE HILLCATS:
Lynchburg scored five unanswered runs to beat Frederick 5-3 in the series opener last night at Harry Grove Stadium...The win moves the Hillcats to a season-high 16 games over .500 and they still have a five-game lead for first place in the Northern Division and the best record in the league...Tonight is game two of a three-game series at Frederick and the second contest of a seven-game road trip...
VS. FREDERICK:
Lynchburg took two out of three from Frederick when they met earlier this season at City Stadium and split four-game series two weeks ago in Frederick...With their win last night they are now 5-3 against the Keys and 3-2 in Maryland...Last season the Keys won the season series against the Cats 12-7 and went 6-4 at home...Lynchburg though holds the all-time advantage 147-132 and they are 71-68 at Harry Grove Stadium...
MARVELOUS MAY:
In the second month of the season the Hillcats posted a 19-9 record...They lost only one series (7-1-1) in the month, had a 3.37 team ERA and batted .263...
DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN:
The Hillcats are back in Frederick just 10 days after they were last here...The Cats are in the midst of playing 23 of 26 against the North that includes ten games against the Keys...Those ten games are over a 25 day period...This series is the second of four series in a row (13 games) against Northern Division foes...
CATCHING THE WORM:
With their series opening win last night, the Hillcats improved to 15-1 in series openers this season...They have now won 14 in a row and are 8-0 in game one contests on the road...Not surprisingly, they are 11-2-2 in series the season and are 4-1-2 on the road...They have not lost a series on the road since their first road set of the season at Wilmington...
LONG TIME COMING:
Lynchburg rallied from three runs down last night to capture game one by a final of 5-3...Trailing by three through four innings, the Hillcats scored five unanswered runs in two innings to take the lead for good...It was the Cats 19th come from behind victory of the season, and their first since May 23rd in Potomac...That was the longest stretch this season for Green & Gold without a comeback win...
SERIES STREAK:
The Hillcats have not lost a series since May 1st-3rd when they dropped two out of three at home to Kinston...That is also the only series they have dropped at home, where they are 7-1 in sets thus far this season after their series win over Potomac...Since the series loss to the K-Tribe the Cats have gone eight series without a loss, going 7-0-1 over that stretch...
PAUL THE PAINTER:
LHP Paul Mildren won his second straight start last night by allowing three runs in five innings of work...It marked the sixth straight start he has not walked a batter...In 46 and 2/3 innings of action he has walked just five batters and has only walked more than one in one outing, his first start of the season...In his last four appearances Mildren has tossed three quality starts and is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA...
DEALING DUBEE:
RHP Michael Dubee threw two scoreless innings last night and struck out six batters in picking up his fifth save in as many opportunities...After allowing a run or more to score in his first two appearances with Lynchburg, Dubee has dealt 22 and 2/3 innings (15 games) without allowing an earned run...He has struck out 40 and walked just two in 26 and 1/3 innings for the Hillcats with a 1.03 ERA...Three outings ago he had his scoreless innings streak halted at 17 and 2/3 innings on an unearned run...That is the longest scoreless stretch by a Cat this season...
DURHAM DIALED IN:
UTIL Miles Durham extended his current hitting streak to ten games last night, setting a it his his longest of the season...Over that time he is 15-for-42 (.357) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored...His two home runs on the previous homestand both proved to be game winners...Since his average dipped to .238 on May 2nd, Durham has hit .343 (36-for-105) with eight doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI and 21 runs scored in 26 games played to raise his average to .296...He is batting .360 with men in scoring position as well this season...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER:
LHP Zach Britton was selected in the third round of the 2006 draft by the Orioles out of high school in Weatherford, Texas...He made his professional debut with Bluefield at the Rookie level that year and went 0-4 with a 5.29 ERA in 11 starts...In 2007 Britton pitched for Aberdeen at the Short Season Low-A level and posted a 6-4 mark with a 3.68 ERA in 15 starts...Last season he moved up to full season Low-A with Delmarva and went 12-7 with a 3.12 ERA in 27 starts...This season he began the year with Frederick at the Advanced-A level and in nine games (eight starts) he has a 2-1 mark with a 2.45 ERA...He made one start against Lynchburg earlier this season and allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings in a no-decision...
