Macon Trax News Release

[Macon Ga.] – The votes for the All-Star Starting Line-up have been tallied and the rest of the roster filled out for the inaugural WHA2 All-Star Game. The WHA2 All-Stars will meet the Jacksonville Barracudas Tuesday, January 27, in Jacksonville at 7:05 pm.

The Trax will send three players to be a part of this great event, including one starter. Defenseman Art Mnatsakanov was selected by the fans to be included in the starting lineup. This season the Russian-born blueliner has appeared in 20 games posting five points and 25 penalty minutes.

"It is a great honor for a first year player to be named to the team, especially in the starting lineup." Head Coach Tommy Stewart said, "Art has been pretty solid this year. He is a rookie and still makes mistakes, but I have been pleased overall with his performance."

Joining Mnatsakanov in Jacksonville will be forwards David Deeves and Steve Zoryk. Stewart is not surprised by their selections.

"Not to be cocky, but I expect Steve and David to make the team," Stewart said, "Like a few more guys on the team those two are All-Star caliber and they (Zoryk and Deeves) have lived up to the hype. I expect them and the team to get better in the second half of the season."

Deeves is coming off an impressive rookie year in which he scored 57 points. In 20 games this season the Barrie, Ont. native has netted 10 goals and dished 17 assists.

The third Macon All-Star has certainly earned his All-Star nod in the last few weeks. After a slow start, Zoryk now leads the WHA2 with 18 goals and three game winning goals. The Ottawa, Ont. native is fifth in the league in points with 32 and second in power play goals with seven. After 20 games the 6"2', 230-pound veteran leads the Trax in points.

"It is great to know that our team has had some star players in the first half." General Manager Joe Suk said, "I know that in the second half of the season our team as a whole will only get better, especially with the help of our All-Stars."

The Trax fans can see their All-Stars in action this weekend. The Trax start a six game home stand Friday night at 7:35 pm when Jacksonville comes to town. The home stand continues Saturday night against Lakeland at 7:35 pm and again Sunday versus rival Alabama at 4:05 pm. Call the Trax at 478-742-4849 for ticket information.
