
Ronayne, Lawrence and Prentice Selected to All-Star Game

PELHAM, AL â The World Hockey Association 2 announced today that Alabama Slammers goaltender Jamie Ronayne and forwards Doug Lawrence and Ryan Prentice have been selected to represent Alabama in the 2004 WHA2 All-Star Game. The 2004 WHA2 All-Star Game will take place on January 27th in Jacksonville, Florida.
Lawrence leads the entire WHA2 in scoring this season with 12 goals, 31 assists and 43 points in just 21 games. His 31 assists also ranks #1 in the league.
"It's always a great honor to be selected to play in the all-star game," said Lawrence. "With two other players selected from our team, we are excited to do our best to represent the organization and the City well."
Ronayne, making his first all-star appearance, has appeared in 12 games with Alabama this season, earning a record of 6-3-1. He ranks forth among all WHA2 goaltenders with a 3.20 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
"This is a great honor for Jamie and one that is definitely well-deserved," said Slammers Head Coach Garry Unger. "He's been outstanding for us all season long and I hope he has fun going to the All-Star Game in Jacksonville."
Prentice, enjoying his best season as a professional, ranks 8th in WHA2 s coring this season with 13 goals and 13 assists on the year. His 26 points is 2nd best on the Slammers active roster.
"Prentice has had a very solid year," said Unger. "He has been excellent on the power play and he controls the puck very well. He knows when to come in for a shot and when not to."
The WHA2 all star game will pit the league all-stars against the host Jacksonville Barracudas. The game will take place in the recently opened Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
Alabama hosts Miami on Friday, January 9th for Church Night. National Recording Artists, Brother's Keeper will perform a free post game concert for all the fans. Saturday, January 10th, is FOX 6 Family Night where fans can purchase a Family Pack that includes 4 game tickets (lower level), 4 hot dogs, and 4 soft drinks for only $39.00.
