
Welsh Named Defenseman of the Year

Pelham, AL - Alabama Slammers defenseman Jorin Welsh has been selected as the WHA2 Defenseman of the Year, given each year to the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) outstanding defenseman, as voted on by the coaches in the league's 6 markets.
A native of Arthur, Ontario, Welsh finished the season fourth amongst WHA2 defenseman in scoring with 38 points. In addition, Welsh finished first in the entire league with a plus/minus rating of +38 and lead all WHA2 defenseman in game winning goals with 6 on the season.
The sixth-year pro was one of only two Alabama players that played in every Slammers game this season.
"Jorin is extremely deserving of this honor," noted Slammers Head Coach Garry Unger. "His outstanding defensive play was a pleasure to watch this year. He worked hard all season and demonstrated he was a premier defenseman in the WHA2 this season."
