Dayton Bombers News Release
Johnstown, PA, - Dayton would jump out to an early three nothing lead in the first period, with all three goals coming on the Power Play, but the Chiefs would return the favor by scoring three goals in the first 10:25 seconds of the third period to steal one from the Bombers by a final of 4-3.
The Bombers could not have asked for a better start on the road picking up two of their three Power Play goals in a three minute span.
Scott Cameron (14) would pick up the first Power Play goal at the 10:51 mark with the assists to Jeff Szwez (10) and Tim Konsorada (15). Then as previously mentioned less than three minutes later at the 12:22 mark it would be Konsorada getting the goal(7) and Scott Cameron picking up the assist (24).
Matt Herneisen would be the benefactor of a rebound left right on the doorstep of the crease at the 14:32 mark to pick up the third Power Play goal of the period and with solid netminding from Mike Ayers they would take the 3-0 lead into the locker room at the end of 1.
Early on in the second it was clear that Johnstown was not going to go quietly as Dmitri Tarabrin snuck behind the defense of the Bombers and roofed a backhand over Mike Ayers stick side on a breakaway at the 1:58 mark.
That would be all of the scoring in the second as both Ayers and Johnstown goalie Johnathan Boutin would keep it that way giving the Bombers the 3-1 lead at the end of 2.
For the first seven and a half minutes that lead would stand but goals by Paul Caponigri, Justin Kelly and the second of the night by Tarabrin would end of being the difference, final score Johnstown 4 and Dayton 3.
Despite the loss this was the third straight game that the Bombers out shot the Chiefs, this time by a total of 34-30.
Next up for the Bombers will be a two game home series with the defending Kelly Cup champions the Trenton Titans this Friday and Saturday at the Nutter Center. Tickets are available at www.daytonbombers.com or call the Bombers office at 775-4747.
