Three Things to Know: Nashville SC vs. Bethlehem Steel FC
August 9, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - Nashville Soccer Club is bringing the heat in August and looks to keep the flame burning this Saturday, Aug. 10 at First Tennessee Park as the team hosts Bethlehem Steel FC at 7:00 p.m. CT, presented by Piedmont/Tennessee 8-1-1. Saturday's match will be Nashville's second home match this week as it comes off of a 4-0 clean sheet victory on Wednesday, Aug. 7 over Hartford Athletic. The result was the team's fourth straight shutout win with others coming against Memphis 901 FC, Indy Eleven and Swope Park Rangers. The 12 combined points earned in these matches have propelled Nashville SC into third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Nashville has an important task at hand as it takes on a talented Bethlehem Steel side; however, the Philadelphia team has struggled to find its footing recently. Losing four of its last five, Bethlehem will be on a mission to improve its form heading into the final stretch of the 2019 regular season.
In their last meeting, Nashville came out on top 4-1 over Bethlehem on June 9. Here are the three things to know about Saturday's match.
1) Double Header with Super Liga America
Teams from Nashville's largest Hispanic recreational soccer league will be playing at First Tennessee Park on Saturday immediately following Nashville SC in a featured championship match. Fans are invited to watch the league's divisional champions go head-to-head on the stadium pitch. The gates will reopen in the 70' minute of Nashville SC's match to allow any Super Liga America fans to cheer on NSC in the final stretch. At the conclusion, seating will switch from assigned ticket seating to general admission seating. Concessions will remain open through kickoff of the second half of the Super Liga America match.
2) Meeting Their Former Team
Four Nashville SC players are more familiar with Bethlehem Steel FC than the rest. Taylor Washington, Ken Tribbett, Derrick Jones and Bolu Akinyode have all played for the Pennsylvania club over the last three years. Jones spent the most time with the club, totaling 55 appearances and scoring nine goals. He was also Bethlehem's first ever signing on Dec. 3, 2015 as they prepared to join the league for the 2016 season. Washington, Akinyode and Tribbett each have 28, 26 and 13 appearances with Bethlehem, respectively.
3) Strength in Numbers
Adding two prolific goal scorers to the roster at the start of the 2019 season has paid off for Nashville SC. With the addition of Daniel RÃos and Cameron Lancaster has produced tremendous growth in NSC's attack. The team has nearly doubled its to-date total from 2018. After the four-goal affair against Hartford on Wednesday, Nashville currently has 41 goals on the season. Through 22 matches last season, the team was at 21 goals. In addition to RÃos and Lancaster, several other players have influenced the offensive push. Lebo Moloto leads the Eastern conference in assists with right, and Ropapa Mensah has contributed four goals. Alan Winn and Ken Tribbet are also going strong with three apiece.
