Three separate moves affect Blades roster

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today that defenseman Ryan McGinnis has been assigned to the club by the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. In addition, goaltender David Shantz has been recalled to the Florida Panthers and the club has traded defenseman Wes Cunningham to the Elmira Jackals.

McGinnis joins the Everblades after spending training camp and the open of the 2008-09 season with the River Rats, although he did not see any regular season game action. The 21-year-old heads to the professional ranks after wrapping up his five-year junior career by tallying 48 points (6g, 42a) and 115 penalty mintues in 64 games with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League.

Prior to last season the Flint, Michigan native spent four seasons with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL where he combined to score 66 points (11g, 55a) and 337 PIM in 223 games. McGinnis was a 6th round draft pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 2005.

The other big move involved the Everblades trading Cunningham to the Jackals for the rights to forward Steve McJannett who spent the previous two seasons in the ECHL with the Columbia Inferno, totaling 54 points in 100 games.
