The Rockies fell to Orem on Thursday night as they dropped the first of four against the Owlz by a score of 6-3 at Suplizio Field.

Both teams scored their first runs in the third as the visitors took the 2-0 lead in the top half against GJ starter Alex Haynes with an RBI single from Jose Verrier and a bases-loaded walk by Morgan McCullough.

The top of Grand Junction's order responded in the bottom half by cutting the deficit to one with Cristopher Navarro's RBI single that plated Eddy Diaz.

After the the Owlz manufactured a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, Christian Koss tied the game at 3-3 with his eighth home run of the year-a two-run bomb that brought in Diaz for the second time in the game.

However, after Ever Moya pitched two scoreless to carry the tie to the ninth, Verrier struck again-this time against Anderson Pilar-with a two-run home run followed by Morgan McCullough's RBI single a few batters later to take the 6-3 lead.

Despite Matt Leon's five inning, one-run start, Andrew Blake was credited with the win for Orem as he pitched two scoreless including the bottom of the ninth and improved to 1-0. The loss fell to Pilar who allowed three runs, one unearned, in just his first loss of the season.

Grand Junction will end its eight-game home stand tomorrow as Mitchell Kilkenny will toe the rubber against Emilker Guzman.
