WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds, 5-1, Thursday evening at Truist Stadium in front of 6,345 fans.

Aberdeen (16-19) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly from Dylan Beavers making it 1-0.

Winston-Salem (23-12) starter Jonathan Cannon settled in after the first, throwing up zeroes across the next three frames. The offense was still waiting to wake up against IronBirds starter Cooper Chandler, and the second time through, the heart of the order showed up.

With one out in the fourth, DJ Gladney laced a triple to left center putting the tying run on third. Next batter, Wilfred Veras, knotted the game up at one on a RBI double plating Gladney.

Cannon went out for his fifth inning of work, but Aberdeen wasted no time getting the run right back on a sacrifice fly from Isaac Bellony, moving the IronBirds back ahead, 2-1.

Aberdeen pitching then took over as Kyle Virbitsky held the Winston-Salem bats silent. In the eighth, the IronBirds found insurance thanks to another sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single from Silas Ardoin as Aberdeen went on to take game four, 5-1.

With the double in the fourth, Veras extended his league leading tally to 16 two baggers on the season.

The Dash and IronBirds meet again on Saturday for game five. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. from Truist Stadium.
