Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON, MA -A sellout crowd of 4,764 at Campanelli Stadium saw a furious eighth inning comeback by the Brockton Rox, who defeated the Sussex Skyhawks 5-3 in the first game of a three-game series. DH Guye Senjem tied the game in the sixth with a two-run HR and tied the game again in the eighth with an RBI single, and 1B Jake Daubert's RBI single in the next at-bat gave the Rox the lead and victory. RHP Brad Guy earned his first win of the season with eight innings pitched, allowing just three unearned runs on five hits while RHP Jon Koch struck out two in the ninth for his first save.
Guy allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and the Rox did not score until the sixth. 2B Mike Scanzano led off the inning with a single, and two batters later Senjem drove a fastball over the right-center field wall for his 4th HR of the year. Senjem has 6 RBI the past two nights. Sussex retook the lead on a passed ball in the top of the seventh inning.
In the eighth, Scanzano again sparked a rally with a one-out single. After an infield single by RF Keith Brachold, Senjem singled up the middle to tie the game. Against LHP Jake Upwood, Daubert came to the plate hitting just .143 against lefties. He smoked a double off the wall in center to give the Rox the lead. C Jason Radwan added a sac fly and Koch shut down the Skyhawks in the ninth for the save.
Tomorrow the Rox send RHP Mike Henry (0-1, 7.20 ERA, 2 GS) to the hill to face RHP Kevin Olsen (1-0, 1.20 ERA, 3 GS) at 7:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium.
