Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A first-inning home run held up in the Modesto Nuts 6-2 loss against the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.
The loss snaps the Nuts (53-73; 23-33) three-game winning streak.
Ljay Newsome (L, 5-10) surrendered back-to-back hits to start the game. David MacKinnon, the third batter of the game, crushed a three-run homer to center. Newsome would not come back out for the second inning and was done after one inning of work for the Nuts.
Danny Garcia followed out of the Nuts' bullpen and allowed one run in the second when he plunked a batter with the bases loaded.
Meanwhile, Adrian De Horta started the game for the 66ers (64-62; 31-25) and cruised into the fourth. After two quick outs, De Horta walked the bases loaded before he was removed from the game. Marc Brakeman (W, 3-0) struck out Beau Branton to end the threat.
The Nuts got their only offense in the fifth when Joe Rizzo crushed a two-run triple off the center-field wall.
Cole Taylor added two runs for the 66ers with a RBI single in the sixth and a RBI double in the ninth.
