66ers Salvage Series Finale at Modesto, MacKinnon Blasts Homer

Modesto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino bounced back from a pair of difficult defeats at Modesto two salvage the series finale against the Nuts 6-2 on Sunday. David MacKinnon's three-run homer in the top of the first inning broke the ice for the 66ers (64-62, 31-26) as they completed their 2018 season-series with the Nuts going 8-4 against the Seattle affiliate of eth Cal League.

After Torii Hunter Jr. and Brandon Marsh singled off Ljay Newsome (5-10) to open the first prior to MacKinnon smacking his fifth homer of with the Sixers. The homer snapped a 17-inning drought for Inland Empire's offense and was the first earned runs allowed in the series by Modesto (53-73, 23-33). Inland Empire loaded the bases in the second against reliever Danny Garcia and with two outs he hit Richie Fecteau with a pitch to score a run and make it 4-0. The Nuts loaded the bases in the fourth with two outs on three consecutive walks from starter Adrian De Horta. IE Manager Ryan Barba was ejected following the third free pass. Marc Brakeman (3-0) relieved De Horta and got a strike out of Beau Branton to end the threat. Joe Rizzo did get the Nuts on the board in the fifth with a two-run triple but Sixers' 2B Cole Taylor came through with an RBI single in the sixth and a RBI double in the ninth to give Inland Empire some breathing room. They were Taylor's first hits and RBI with the Sixers.
