Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves beat the Indianapolis Indians 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Indiana. The win snaps the Braves four-game losing streak. The Braves are now 19-24. The Indians move back to .500 at 22-22.
It Was Over When: The Braves scored three runs in the top of the ninth. Wes Timmons broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out RBI single to right, scoring Matt Young from second. Both Gregor Blanco and Wes Timmons then scored on the same passed ball by Indians' catcher Luke Carlin. The pitch had struck out Barbaro Canizares but got by Carlin and all the way to the backstop. Canizares made it to first on the play.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Jose Ortegano got a no decision in his second Triple-A start: His line: 5.2 IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K. Mike Dunn came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth: 1.1 IP, 1H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 1K. Craig Kimbrel gets his first win of the season: 2.0 IP, 0H, 0R/ER, 2BB, 4K
At the plate: Gregor Blanco goes 1-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to nine games; Barbaro Canizares is 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Wes Timmons is 2-for-4 and scored three times.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Lefty Donnie Veal started and got a no decision. His line: 5.0 IP, 4H, 3R/ER, 4BB, 6K. Steven Jackson worked the sixth and seventh: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R/ER, 1BB, 0K. Wil Ledezma was credited for the loss: 1.2 IP, 3H, 3R, 1ER, 1BB, 0K. Jean Machi finished out the game: 0.1 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 1BB, 2K.
At the plate: First baseman Erik Kratz went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, his 5th of the season. Second baseman Brian Friday was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
On Deck: The Braves and the Indians play game three of the four-game series in Indianapolis tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Tim Gustafson (3-2, 5.90 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Indianapolis will start RHP Mike Crotta (2-2, 4.67 ERA)
