Three Power Play Goals Lift Silvertips

EVERETT, Wash. - Jake Christiansen logged a goal and an assist from the blueline while the power play went 3-of-6 to help boost the Everett Silvertips to a 4-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans in the final game before the holiday break, before 3,773 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena on Wednesday in WHL action.

The Tips jumped ahead of Portland into sole possession of first place in the U.S. Division with their seventh win in eight games (7-0-1), patching a wire-to-wire effort while Keegan Kari turned in a winning 15-save effort in net. Gage Goncalves, Jackson Berezowski, and Dawson Butt each scored a goal for the Tips, who outshot Tri-City, 42-18.

Gage Goncalves buried a snap shot off the rush past Beck Warm from the left circle, 4:14 into the game and Jake Christiansen followed with a power play goal 1:03 later, slamming Cole Fonstad's cross-seam pass with a one timer from the right circle for his sixth goal of the year and a 2-0 lead.

Paycen Bjorklund's wrister from the base of the left circle put Tri-City back in the game, trailing 2-1 with 9:10 left, but the Tips maintained heavy pressure and outshot the Americans, 16-4 in the first 20 minutes.

The Tips hammered two more power play goals in the second period to pull away for good. Jackson Berezowski fired a snap shot past Warm from the right circle at 2:30 of the second period and Dawson Butt's rebound goal with 3:21 left put the Tips up 4-1.

Tri-City made a play to come back, but it was too late: Samuel Stewart scored on the ensuing shift from the left circle with 2:46 left and Paycen Bjorklund earned his second of the game on a snap shot from the right circle at 6:42, but the Tips hung on by outshooting Tri-City, 15-3 in the final period.

Warm took the loss for Tri-City with 38 shots and the Americans fell to 0-5-1 since the start of December.

NOTES: Scratched from the lineup were Braden Holt, Michal Gut, Tyson Phare, Martin Fasko-Rudas (World Juniors), and Carter Halamandaris ... Goncalves heads into the break with 11 points in the last 9 games ... Ronan Seeley, with a pair of assists, has 9 points in 9 games since Thanksgiving ... the Tips improved to 3-1-0 over Tri-City, and have won the final game before the holiday break for four straight years ... the Tips will switch to white jerseys at home, and green jerseys on the road for the remainder of the season.
