Three Points: Dynamo Look to Regain Home Field Advantage

August 18, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo are back home tonight to take on Real Salt Lake in a crucial Western Conference showdown. With just 11 games remaining in the season, the Dynamo are eight points out of the sixth and final playoff spot - a spot currently occupied by Salt Lake.

Tonight's game is effectively a six-point contest, as a win for Houston or RSL would either drastically reduce or increase the margin between the two sides. With Salt Lake coming off of a tough road game Wednesday night at Los Angeles FC, the Dynamo will want to take advantage of the fact that, for the first time in a while, they are the team with fresh legs.

Houston will also honor club legend Bobby Boswell at tonight's game as part of the second annual Homecoming Night. Boswell, who played for the Dynamo from 2008-13, will be honored at halftime and will be joined on the field by fellow Dynamo legends such as Brian Ching, Stuart Holden and Corey Ashe, among others.

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: Houston Dynamo (7-10-6; 27 pts.) vs. Real Salt Lake (10-10-5; 35 pts.)

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR TONIGHT'S GAME:

1. GOTTA GET GOING - The Dynamo come into tonight's game on a four-game losing streak in league play and needing to get back in the "W" column. With two thirds of the season in the books, the Dynamo have eight points to make up in the standings if they want to get into the playoffs for a second consecutive season. There's plenty of time to make a charge, but there's no time like the present to get it started.

2. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE - To make that late push into the postseason, the Dynamo will need to make the most of their home field advantage when playing at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston is 6-4-2 at home, but three of those losses have come in matches where the team finished a man or more down due to red cards. The Dynamo haven't scored multiple goals at home in league play since July 7, and a return to those high-scoring ways at home would be very welcome this evening.

3. MANOTAS NEARING CLUB RECORD - Leading the charge in that pursuit of goal will likely be forward Mauro Manotas. The young Colombian has a career-high 11 goals in league play and 15 in all competitions. One more strike would tie him with Will Bruin for the club record across all competitions, and a hat trick would tie him for the club record in league play, set by Erick "Cubo" Torres a year ago. Often, as goes Manotas so go the Dynamo; the team is 4-2-4 this year in the league when he has found the net and 7-2-4 overall when he scores.
