Three Mavericks Named Post Season All-Stars

The High Desert Mavericks are pleased to report second baseman Kyle Seager, first baseman Rich Poythress, and outfielder Johermyn Chavez have all been named to the 2010 California League Post Season All- Star Team.

Seager's .346 batting average not only leads the league, but also ranks fourth in all of Minor League Baseball. His 177 hits and 119 runs scored are both tops in all of the Minors as well. Seager also leads the California League with a .420 on-base percentage and ranks third with 35 doubles. Earlier this season, Seager recorded a 32- game hit streak - the longest in the California League this year, as well as the second-longest in team history and the second-longest in the Minor Leagues this season.

Poythress is one of six Post Season All-Stars who also participated in the California League-Carolina League All-Star Game in June. The slugging first baseman leads all of professional baseball with 121 RBI's - 16 more than the next closest total. His 30 home runs, 62 extra-base hits, and .575 slugging percentage each rank third in the league. Poythress' .311 batting average is also in the Cal League's top 10.

After a solid first half of the season, Chavez established himself as one of the league's preeminent hitters in the second half. He currently is second in the league with 31 homers, 64 extra-base hits, and a .582 slugging percentage, trailing only California League MVP Paul Goldschmidt in each category. He is also third with 156 hits and 93 RBI's, and fifth with a .316 batting average. During the second half, Chavez is hitting .342 with 19 homers and 59 RBI's. =46rom July 8 to August 3, he hit safely in 23 consecutive games.

The Mavericks All-Star trio and the rest of the team will begin their final home series of the year Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against Lake Elsinore. With 11 regular season games remaining, the Mavs are currently tied for first place in the South Division and are trying to secure their place in the playoffs.
