Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - The JetHawks refuse to go away in the second half pennant race. A two-run homer by David Flores in the sixth inning put Lancaster on top and four shutout innings of relief from Kyle Godfrey sealed a win as the JetHawks beat the Lake Elsinore Storm 4-3 Thursday night at the Diamond. Lancaster takes two out of three to win the series. The victory keeps them just two games out of first place in the second half.
Lancaster led early. Jay Austin opened the game with a double and scored on a long single by Brandon Barnes, the 80th RBI of the season for the JetHawks right fielder. Brian Pellegrini doubled to push Barnes to third and a wild pitch allowed Barnes to cross the plate for the second run of the inning.
JetHawks starter Kyle Greenwalt grinded through the first few innings. The Storm worked deep counts and fouled off several pitches. They scored once in the first and twice in the second to take the lead. Despite that, Greenwalt bore down and worked three scoreless innings after the early struggles, giving his team a chance to come from behind.
They accomplished that in the sixth inning. John Curtis drew a one out walk and after the second out of the inning, David Flores smashed one over the left field wall for a two-run homer that ended up being the game winner. It's the second home run in as many days for Flores.
After taking the lead, the JetHawks handed the ball to Kyle Godfrey. He went on to throw a season-high four innings, not allowing a single run or hit. He struck out five and walked just one in earning his first save of the season. Greenwalt took the win, his team-high eighth this year.
The JetHawks road trip moves Friday night to Rancho Cucamonga. Patrick Urckfitz (5-8) will pitch for Lancaster against Orangel Arenas (6-3) of the Storm. The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com/CSN and on radio at NewsTalk 1380. Coverage begins with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:50.
