August 27, 2010 - California League (CalL1) News Release
Port Hueneme, CA - The California League announced today its 2010 season Field Awards and Post Season All-Star Team. Carlos Lezcano was named Manager of the Year. The Lake Elsinore Storm Manager has been a manager for 18 seasons and has been with the Storm for 4 seasons. The Storm won the First Half Southern Division Title and currently have the best overall record in the Cal League.
Joining Lezcano is Dave Rajsich who was named Cal League Coach of the Year. Rajsich, the Lake Elsinore Storm Pitching Coach, is in his 3rd season with the team. The Storm pitchers currently have the lowest team ERA in the League as they are the only team with an ERA under 4.00 this season (3.65).
Visalia First Baseman, Paul Goldschmidt, was named the Cal League's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year as well as being named to the Post Season All-Star Team. Goldschmidt, the 8th round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009, has hit .304 so far this season. He leads the League in home runs with 33, doubles with 36, he has the best slugging percentage and leads the league in OPS. He is 2nd in RBIs with 96.
Brad Brach, RHP for the Lake Elsinore Storm, is the Cal League's Pitcher of the Year. Brach, who was the Class Relief Pitcher of the Year last year in the Midwest League, set the Cal League's all-time single season saves mark earlier this year when he collected his 38th save.
