Three Home Runs Down Otters in Opener at Florence

FLORENCE, Ky. - The Evansville Otters dropped the opener of a three-game series against the Florence Freedom 5-4 on Tuesday evening at UC Health Stadium.

Florence got on the board first thanks to a two-run home run from Jordan Brower in the second inning.

The Freedom extended their lead to 3-0 on a Jacob Wark RBI single to left.

Evansville struck for four runs in the fifth to take the lead. Mike Rizzitello lead off the frame with a solo home run, his first of the year to cut the deficit to 3-1. Logan Taylor, David Cronin, and Ryan Long then hit consecutive doubles to tie the game at 3-3. Travis Harrison then gave the Otters their first lead with an RBI single to left.

Florence tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run from Brower, his second of the game.

Skylar Ewing then pushed the Freedom back in front on a solo home run to right field in the seventh.

The Otters put a runner aboard in the ninth, but Johnathon Tripp shut the door on the Otters to secure the 5-4 win and pick up his third save of the season.

Austin Nicely receives a no decision for his efforts as the Otters starter. Nicely threw six innings, allowing four runs, on 12 hits and garnering three strikeouts.

Jordan Kraus nets the win for Florence after throwing seven innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits while striking out four.

The Otters will return home for a nine-game homestand June 22-July 1, having three-game sets against the Southern Illinois Miners, Gateway Grizzlies and River City Rascals. June 22-24 against the Miners will feature Deaconess Women's Hospital Night, Deaconess Night and postgame fireworks, and a family fun day. June 26-28 against the Grizzlies will have $2 Tuesday, Day Camp Day and Thirsty Thursday. June 29-July 1 against the Rascals will be highlighted by Edward Jones Night and postgame fireworks, Heritage Federal Credit Union hat giveaway and Boy Scout Night, and another family fun day.
