Three-Hitter Carries Aeros to Victory over SeaWolves

Akron, OH- Three Akron pitchers, including Indians righthander Brett Myers, combined on a three-hitter Friday night, as the Aeros defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 4-1, before a crowd of 6,633 at Canal Park.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Aeros and shaved a game off the SeaWolves' lead in the EL West. The Aeros (20-21) are now tied with Richmond for second place in the division, five games behind Erie.
Myers, one of the Tribe's key free agent acquisitions last winter, made his first minor league rehab appearance since being placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation and a ligament sprain April 20th. He threw three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk. He faced 10 hitters, throwing 33 total pitches, 18 of which were strikes. He mixed in his fastball, cutter, curve and change-up.
Righthander Will Roberts (2-2) was the Aeros scheduled starter, and came in to pitch after Myers. Coming off a loss against Reading in his last start, Roberts looked sharp over the next five innings, giving up two hits and a single run. He walked two and struck out four, and earned his first home win at Canal Park.
Roberts turned a 4-1 lead over to Bryan Price in the ninth, and watched from the dugout as Price recorded a perfect inning to notch his second save. Price has not allowed a run in any of his 10 outing covering 12 2/3 innings since joining the Aeros on April 21st.
Akron broke a scoreless tie in the fourth against previously unbeaten Victor Larez (5-1) in the fourth when Tyler Holt doubled and came home to score on a two-out hit by Carlos Moncrief.
A walk and throwing error led to an Akron run in the fifth to make it 2-0. The SeaWolves countered in the top of the seventh, and scored their only run against Roberts on an RBI double by Tyler Collins to make it 2-1. It didn't take long for the Aeros to get that run back, however, as Ronny Rodriguez belted a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh, his second of the season. Akron closed out the scoring in the eighth with an unearned run off Tyler Clark.
Giovanny Urshela was 1-4, to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Chun Chen was also 1-4, and has now hit in 10 straight.
The Aeros and SeaWolves will continue the series Saturday night at 6:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-2, 3.16) will start for Erie, while RHP Blake Wood will make a one-inning major league rehab start for Akron. LHP Matt Packer (1-5, 4.07) will follow Wood.
