'Wolves Drop Series Opener at Akron

The SeaWolves could not get the bats going on Friday night at Canal Park as they dropped the series opener to the Akron Aeros 4-1.

Akron got on the board in the fourth against Erie starter Victor Larez. Tyler Holt led off with a double and came home to score on a two-out Carlos Moncreif base knock for a 1-0 lead.

The Aeros extended their lead in the fourth. With two outs, Giovanny Urshela walked to extend the inning. Jose Ramirez followed and sent a bouncer to first that hit the bag and trickled into right. A Luis Castillo errant throw in allowed Urshela to come home from third making it 2-0 Akron.

Erie got on the board against Will Roberts in the seventh. Daniel Fields walked with one out and came home on an opposite-field Tyler Collins double making it 2-1.

Akron went back up by two in the last of the seventh as Ronny Rodriguez belted a solo home run, his second, off of Larez making it 3-1.

Akron added a fourth and final run in the eighth against Erie reliever Tyler Clark. Holt led off and eached on a James Robbins error. A Chun Chen single moved Holt to third and he scoured on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jesus Aguilar making it 4-1.

Larez (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.

The SeaWolves and Aeros meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at Canal Park at 6:05 p.m. LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-2, 3.16 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Blake Wood.
