Three-Goal Third Sinks Thunder

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost to the Rapid City Rush 4-1 at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night. Rapid City used a lengthy drive inside the Thunder zone to open up a 1-0 lead in the first. After working the puck around the net for nearly a full minute, Scott Wray wrapped around the left post and slid a puck behind Ian Keserich at 13:02.

The Thunder used a power play goal to tie the game for a second straight night at 13:00 in the second period. Brent Ottmann scored after redirecting a shot from the point by Steve Makway over the left shoulder of Danny Battochio. Earlier on the same power play, Ian Keserich squelched two Rapid City odd-man rushes while the Rush were shorthanded.

The Rush regained the lead at 7:32 in the third period. Jon Pelle cut through the Thunder defense to create an open chance in front of the crease, scoring on the power play to make it 2-1. The took their first two-goal lead of the night at 18:15 when Les Reaney's backhand shot from the right circle clanked off of Keserich's right pad and into the net. Rich Hansen scored an empty net goal in the final minute to put the game away.

Keserich went 27 for 30, suffering his ninth loss despite beginning the day as the league's leader in save percentage. Battochio saved 26 of 27 in the win. The Thunder was 1 for 8 on the power play while Rapid City was 1 for 5.

The Thunder next plays on Tuesday at Tulsa in the makeup of the game originally scheduled for Christmas Day.
