Allen Americans News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Allen Americans lost to the Missouri Mavericks 3-0 tonight at the Independence Event Center. The loss puts Allen's record at 28-10-3 (59 points).
The first period opened with eighteen minutes of scoreless hockey. Newcomer Mike Salekin had his first tussle in an Americans uniform when he exchanged punches with Jordan Foreman midway through the frame. Missouri posted two late power play goals from Mike Burgoyne and Jeff MacDermid to give the Mavericks a 2-0 advantage heading into the locker room.
Just over two minutes into the middle frame, Braden Walls scored on a one timer to bring increase the Mavericks' lead to three. After the goal, the Americans shut Missouri down and stayed out of the penalty box the rest of the game, except for one trip to the sin bin from Colton Yellow Horn.
The Americans looked stronger in the third but couldn't find the back of the net. The club posted 25 shots on goal, and Charlie Effinger stopped 27 tonight.
The Americans travel to Mississippi Tuesday, Feb. 2, to play the RiverKings at 7:05 p.m. before hosting Mississippi and Rio Grande Valley in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday at the Allen Event Center. Feb. 5 is McDonald's night, and Allen will be paying tributes to the King of Rock and King of Pop with Elvis and Michael Jackson impersonators and fan contests Feb. 6.
