Bucks Corpus Curse Continues, Fall 6-3

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 6-3 Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks two-game winning streak was snapped as they fall to 19-14-7 (45 points).

Kris Tebbs stopped 38 of 41 shots for Corpus as the Bucks winless streak against the Ice Rays is extended to six games (0-5-1).

Just like the night before the Bucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead when they picked up a pair of special teams goals in the first period.

Laredo took a 1-0 lead 9:04 into the first when Mike Looby scored on a slap shot from the point right off of Neil Trimm's face off win. Looby picked up his sixth goal of the season and his first since January 8th.

The Bucks increased their lead to 2-0 with just 1:51 left in the first when Robin Richards jammed in a power-play goal right in front of the Ice Rays net to score his fifth of the season.

Each team put up 16 shots in the opening period.

The Ice Rays (17-18-6) scored four unanswered goals in the second period, including three in the first 6:41, to take a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Kyle Peto (1:16), Morgan MacLean (3:38), Adam Powell (6:41) and Matt Smyth (16:16) scored to put the Ice Rays on top.

The Ice Rays outshot the Bucks in the second period 11-10.

Ryan Garbutt scored 2:49 into the third period to make it 5-2 in favor of Corpus.

Darryl Smith cut the Ice Rays lead to 5-3 with 16:16 left in the third period when he scored from the top of the right circle. Smith is now tied with Chad Woolard for the CHL goal lead in goals with 23.

Garbutt added an empty net goal with 1:05 left in the game.

Laredo outshot Corpus 41-35 for the game.

Kevin Desfosses fell to 4-2 in the Bucks net as he stopped 29 of 34.

The Bucks will close out their three-in-three Sunday afternoon in Odessa. Game time is 4pm.
