Three Crush players named to 2005 All-Arena Team
May 25, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Colorado Crush News Release
Denver, Colo. â Colorado Crush offensive specialist Damian Harrell was named to the Arena Football League's 2005 All-Arena First Team and fullback/linebacker Rich Young and kicker Clay Rush were named to the All-Arena Second Team, the league announced today. The announcement was made live on ESPNews earlier this afternoon.
Harrell (6-3, 200, Florida State), in his seventh AFL season and third with the Crush, becomes the first Crush player to receive first-team honors. This year, Harrell set an AFL record for consecutive games with a touchdown reception (49), breaking Eddie Brown's (Albany Firebirds) record (41 games) on April 3 when the Crush defeated the Las Vegas Gladiators. Harrell finished the regular season with 1,486 receiving yards (4th in the AFL) on 122 catches (4th in the AFL). His 41 touchdowns were the second-most in the league, while he ranked second in the league in 3rd-down receptions (24). This marks the second straight season Harrell has earned All-Arena honors; last season, he was named All-Arena Second Team.
Rich Young (6-3, 255, Tulsa), now in his sixth AFL season and second with the Crush, led the team in sacks (5.0-18 yards) and recorded 19 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, Young led the team in rushing with 67 yards on 21 carries, this despite missing two games with turf toe. He currently holds the franchise record for rushing (122 yards) and is second in sacks (8.0). This is the first time Young has been named to an All-Arena team.
Clay Rush (6-3, 220, Missouri Western) led the league in touchbacks (60), eight more than his closest competitor. The second-leading scorer for the Crush this season (147 points), Rush is in his first season with the Crush and seventh in the AFL. Second in the league in both PATs made (105) and PATs attempted (118), Rush was named AFL Kicker of the Year in both 2000 and 2003 while with the Iowa Barnstomers and the Indiana Firebirds, respectively. He was also named to the AFL's All-Arena First Team each of those seasons.
Harrell, Young and Rush helped the Crush to a Central Division title and the number one seed in the American Conference. The Crush begin their quest for ArenaBowl XIX when they host the San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, May 29 (1:30 p.m., NBC) in an AFL Divisional Playoff.
