Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA â As the 2005 regular season comes to a close, the Philadelphia Soul are already looking forward to 2006. The team announced the re-signing of five key players today to contract extensions.
Wide receiver/linebacker Sean Scott headlines the list of returning players. The Philadelphia native and Millersville University graduate came to terms with the team late last week. Scott was second on the Soul with 77 receptions for 798 and 26 total touchdowns this season. He also ranked 4th on the team with 42.5 tackles and added four pass break-ups, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception which he returned for a touchdown. One of the AFL's best all-around players, Scott was recently honored as the team's "Ironman of the Year".
The Soul's 2005 "Lineman of the Year" and first player in team history, Dwayne Missouri (6-5, 285, Northwestern) continued to show that he is one of the more dominant two-way lineman. This season he recorded a career and team-high five sacks and five forced fumbles with 15.5 tackles, five pass break-ups, two quarterback hurries and a blocked kick.
One of the Soul's most promising young players, wide receiver/defensive back Chris Brown (6-3, 205, Grambling) was a late addition to the team's active roster this season. Brown recorded 13 catches for 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season while becoming a steady contributor in the defensive backfield with 12 tackles, two pass break-ups, and a forced fumble over the second half of the season.
The Soul also re-signed offensive/defensive lineman Cyron Brown (6-5, 300, Western Illinois). Brown, who played in all 16 games during the 2005 season, is one of the Soul's strongest defensive players, compiling 23.5 tackles this season, five pass break-ups and one quarterback hurry.
Fullback/linebacker Wes Ours (6-0, 300, West Virginia) is the fifth Soul player to have had his contract extended. Despite being injured for the first seven games of the season, Ours came on strong late in the season, registering five tackles and a sack. Ours also totaled 10 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
