Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Texas League has named the 2008 Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team and End of Year Awards, with three Springfield Cardinals being named to the team. Third baseman Allen Craig and pitchers Fernando Salas and Jess Todd made this year's squad.

Todd, now pitching for Triple-A Memphis, had a brilliant season for Springfield. After opening the year in the Florida State League, Todd went 4-5 for Springfield with a 2.97 ERA, which ranked second in the league before his promotion to Triple-A.

Craig, who recently went on the Disabled List with pain in his lower back, has been the club leader in most offensive categories all year. Craig was batting .301 with 21 homers and 81 RBIs prior to the injury.

Salas is currently at the top of the leader-board for saves in the Texas League with 24. Salas is 7-3 with a 3.82 ERA in a team-leading 57 appearances.

Taking Player of the Year honors was Kila Kaaihue of Northwest Arkansas, who was promoted to Triple-A Omaha at the end of July. Kaaihue hit .314 with a league-high 26 homers and 79 RBIs in just 91 games.

Winning the Pitcher of the Year Award was Midland's Vincent Mazzaro, who was a league-best 12-3 with the best ERA in the league at 1.90, before his promotion to Triple-A Sacramento.

Scott Little of the Frisco RoughRiders was named Manager of the Year, after guiding Frisco to a first-half South Division title and the league's best record in 2008.
