Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Stephen Faris tossed seven innings of two-run ball, Kyle Blanks drove in nine, seven in the last three frames, and San Antonio banged out 28 hits as the Missions knocked off the Hooks 21-3 in the home finale before 7,545 Monday night at Whataburger Field.

The Missions batted around four times and improve to 30-32 in the second half. Their run and hit total was the most by a Corpus Christi opponent in franchise history.

Blanks hit a two-run double in the eighth, in addition to plating five in the ninth thanks to a home run and double, giving him 101 RBIs this season.

Corpus Christi (21-41) started the scoring in the second. A night after driving in five runs, Ole Sheldon opened the frame with a double to left-center. Following a walk and strikeout, Lou Santangelo lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Sheldon for a 1-0 lead.

Bud Norris started well out of the gate, retiring the first six men he faced. Trouble began in the third when Lobaton led off with a booming home run over the berm in right field. An RBI single from Josh Alley and bases-loaded walk later in the frame capped the rally and made it 3-1 San Antonio.

Norris (3-8) left the game after allowing five hits and two walks through three innings.

Ryan McKeller entered in relief to begin the fourth and was greeted by Lobaton's second home run of the night and ninth of the season. The flood gates then opened with five of the next six batters reaching base via singles, resulting in a six-run Missions' advantage.

Reliever Sergio Perez began the fifth and issued a lead-off walk to Lobaton. Perez then forced a fly out from Jesus Lopez, but back-to-back singles by Faris and Gabe Lopez loaded the bases. Alley followed with a sacrifice fly to left, putting the game out of reach at 8-1 San Antonio.

In the seventh, Santangelo disrupted a string of 10 straight outs by Faris by blasting his eighth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

Faris (8-5), 4-1 with a 1.66 ERA against the Hooks this season, held the Hooks to five hits, three for extra bases.

Mitch Einertson tripled and scored a run for Corpus Christi in the ninth.

The Hooks embark upon an eight-game road trip to close out the season. Casey Hudspeth and Michael Schlact meet in the opener at Frisco on Tuesday night.
