Those 'Cats Have Claws, Down Brooklyn 3-2

For the third night in a row, the Cyclones would lose to Tri-City, this time by a score of 3-2. The Cyclones lost more than just the ballgame, but also their wild card lead. Before the final pitch was thrown in this game, Connecticut wrapped up their victory over Hudson Valley to tie the wild card race with just two games left in the season. With a 4-2 record against the Cyclones this season, the tie-breaker would give Connecticut a post-season berth if the tie holds.

Two nights after errors hurt the Cyclones, Brooklyn was able to take advantage of a few ValleyCats defensive miscues to jump ahead early in Saturday night's game. To leadoff the game John Mora reached on an error by Tri-City's second baseman Alex Hernandez. Mora would advance to second on a passed ball, and make his way to third on a single by Amed Rosario. Following the single, Michael Conforto would ground into a double play, but it would be enough to drive in Mora and give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

After a few failed attempts, with one swing of the bat, the ValleyCats would claw their way passed the Cyclones and into lead. In the bottom of the fifth, after a leadoff single, Tri-City right fielder Jose Solano turned on a pitch and sent it over Conforto in left for a two-run home run.

The ValleyCats would tack on another run in the bottom of the sixth with another home run. Nick Tanielu, who was thrown out at home by Michael Bernal earlier in the game would cross the plate without any threat this time, after sending a solo shot over the left field fence.

Brooklyn would try to rally in the top of the ninth but would fall short once again after only getting one run across to end the ballgame. Michael Conforto who has been a more than reliable bat for Brooklyn since mid-July came through once again, hitting a solo home run to cut the Tri-City lead in half. Jhoan Ureña followed it up with a double to give the Cyclones hope of tying the game. Two outs and three batters later, with Ureña on third it was all up to Tucker Tharp. Unfortunately, Tharp would just roll the ball over to second to end the game.

The Cyclones have just one more home game this season, and it is tomorrow night against the Staten Island Yankees.
