
Tigers Defeat Spinners

Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (41-34) defeated the Lowell Spinners (37-37) by the score of 5-3 Sunday evening at Dodd Stadium. DH Jacob Kapstein (2-4) hit a difference making two run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning that put the Tigers in front 4-2. Kapstein picked the perfect time to hit his first home run of the season.
The Spinners jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning. The Tigers struck right back in the bottom of the first inning to score two runs and tied the game. LF Kasey Coffman (2-4) hit a clutch two out RBI single and RF Ben Verlander (1-3) walked with the bases loaded to bring in the tying run, 2B Brett Pirtle (1-4). In the seventh inning with two outs, SS Steven Fuentes (1-4) set a new franchise record with his seventh triple of the season. 3B Joey Pankake (1-4) followed with an RBI single that scored Fuentes.
RHP Fernando Perez (6-4) picked up his sixth win of the season on Sunday. Perez pitched six innings while allowing two runs on six hits and struck out five batters. Perez surrendered two runs in the first inning and recovered well after surrendering them. RHP Johan Belisario (S, 3) pitched two innings while recording his third save of the season. Belisario gave up an RBI single to Spinners LF Bryan Hudson (3-4) which snapped Belisario's streak of 27.2 consecutive scoreless innings. Belisario was one out away from pushing his streak to 28 consecutive scoreless innings before the Hudson RBI single.
With a win or a Brooklyn Cyclones loss tomorrow, the Connecticut Tigers will make the New York-Penn League playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
In the series finale, Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (6-3, 2.82) is slated to face Spinners RHP Kevin McAvoy (0-2, 2.13). Tomorrow is Team Photo Giveaway! It is also Fan Appreciation Night. It is aslo is Kids Eat Free presented by US Foods & The Day. Each child ticket (12 & Under) will receive a voucher redeemable for a hot dog, bag of chips, bottle of water, and an apple!
