Portland Thorns FC News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Following a dramatic 4-3 win at home against the Orlando Pride, Portland Thorns FC return to the road for a match against Utah Royals FC on Friday, July 19, at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Beginning at 7 p.m. (Pacific), the match will be broadcast on Yahoo! Sports.
Recent form
Portland (6-2-4, 22pts) has lost just once in its last eight matches and currently ranks second in the NWSL in goals scored (23). Thorns FC registered four goals for the second time this season in their win over the Pride on July 14 at Providence Park. Four players tallied goals for Portland in its win against Orlando, including the first goal of the season for Hayley Raso. Notably, Raso is the 11th player to score a goal for Thorns FC in 2019. Midge Purce recorded her sixth goal of the season, which currently ranks as the third-most in the NWSL. Christine Sinclair added her fourth goal of the season against the Pride and Tyler Lussi scored the latest game-winning goal in Thorns FC history, recording her second goal in her last three appearances - all as a substitute.
Road tested
Thorns FC will play their ninth road match of the 2019 season on Friday against Utah. Portland has posted a record of 4-1-3 in road matches this season, registering the most road wins (4) and scoring the most goals (16) of any team in the NWSL in 2019. Thorns FC are unbeaten in their last three road games and have suffered just one loss (6-1-3) in their last 10 away matches, dating back to the 2018 season.
Against Utah
Friday's match marks the fifth meeting all-time between Portland and Utah. Thorns FC are unbeaten in the previous four meetings, with a record of 2-0-2, including three shutouts. Portland has outscored Royals FC 7-1 in the four previous matches. In Thorns FC's last road game against Utah, Tobin Heath scored a second-half goal to help secure a point on the road in a 1-1 draw on April 29, 2018. Lindsey Horan and Heath have each tallied two goals and an assist in three career matches against Royals FC.
