
Thorns FC Sign Defender Ellie Carpenter to Multi-Year Contract Extension

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC today announced that the club has signed defender Ellie Carpenter to a multi-year contract extension. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Additionally, Carpenter will play on loan during the NWSL offseason in the W-League with Melbourne City FC, beginning play on Nov. 16 against the Newcastle Jets.
Carpenter, 19, concluded her second season with Thorns FC in 2019, appearing in 16 games (14 starts), logging 1,221 minutes. The Australian international also recorded one assist and helped Portland's backline record eight shutouts during the regular season.
In her first season with Portland in 2018, Carpenter played in 17 matches (14 starts), becoming the youngest player to score a goal in NWSL history in a 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit on May 19, 2018. Carpenter also started both NWSL playoff matches, including the 2018 NWSL Championship match.
